SCARF Learner to Provisional Driver Program (L2P)

Background
Wollongong was designated a “welcoming city” for refugees in 2002 and since then about 500 refugees from Africa, Burma and Iraq have settled in the Wollongong Local Government Area.

Most adult refugees arriving under the Australian Government’s Special Humanitarian Visa Program do not have any formal driving experience. For all of these new arrivals passing of the NSW RTA Learner Driver’s Test is an important milestone in the resettlement process. Very importantly, holding a driver’s licence enhances future work opportunities and will increase mobility for their families to access a wider range of recreational and cultural activities.

L2P Program Aim
The aim of this program is to provide adult members of the Illawarra refugee community that have a Learner Driver Licence with supervised driving practice so they can obtain a Provisional Licence.
