Community Gardens

DAPTO COMMUNITY GARDEN
The Dapto Garden Project is harvesting their second crop of vegetables, and have gained much experience from the Dapto farm community gardeners. Te Bu has taken on the job of Treasurer, collecting the rent and the money due for seedlings. The group has sold lettuces, with more to harvest for local co-ops and events such as the Harvest Festival in Wollongong. Everyone is having fun, enjoying the gardening program and fruitful outputs. If anyone is keen to join, has any gardening DVD’s or magazines they no longer use, please contact Ann Rays phone 02 4297 7073 or [email]

CRINGILA COMMUNITY GARDEN
With plots of cassava and sweet potato leaves trialed for local African communities, the multicultural Cringila garden is open to any interested local gardeners looking to participate in a community garden in their local area. Plots are also currently available at the Dapto garden, as above.

Please contact the Cringila Coordinator Dan Deighton [email] or Paul Dumbuya [email] if you would like to become involved at Cringila. Gardeners are joined and supported by the Port Kembla Men's Project.

African Women's Sewing Circle
A vibrant Miriam Makeba kaftan, a tailored fishtail skirt, or a hand-woven water bottle carrier; these are some of the items created and for sale through the African Women's Sewing Circle. Commenced in 2007 as a pilot project to support women through their sewing skills, an IMB Foundation grant in 2008- 2009 allowed individuals and the group to establish a truly creative enterprise.

Please contact Coordinator Sarah Chisholm [email] if you would like to be involved as a home sewing tutor, have small business experience, or you have fabrics you would like to donate or sell.

We have one stall at Coledale Markets on the 4th Sunday each month selling a range of products and designs. Details of the Coledale Markets... [here]

Budding designers will also have stalls at this year's Spring into Corrimal, Viva La Gong, and the Illawarra Folk Festival. Come and see us! Images by Andy Zakeli - courtesy of Illawarra Mercury.
