WorkVentures is an Australian not-for-profit social enterprise. They aim to be a catalyst for social change by undertaking initiatives that directly empower disadvantaged people to build positive futures. They focus on giving the capacity and tools to create good lives for themselves, such as new skills, access to technology, fulfilling traineeships and sustainable employment. They work in partnership with other organisations that help deliver programs that help individuals in disadvantaged and indigenous communities. |

SCARF acknowledge support from the Scanlon Foundation towards the scoping and design of a recycling intermediate labour market / social enterprise. Funding will allow SCARF and the refugee community to look at the positioning of such a service in the Illawarra, following a successful pilot team at the 2010 Illawarra Folk Festival. The model aims to create “green” work experience and training, cross-cultural opportunities and ultimately employment pathways through refugee participation at local ‘waste free’ events and festivals. |

SCARF acknowledges , with thanks, Armstrong Legal's team members, Mark Youssef (Senior Family Lawyer) and Michal Mantaj (Senior Criminal Lawyer). Community members had requested information on how the law works in Australia, in relation to family matters. This important information at both Family Law and Criminal Law level was thoughtfully presented at a Seminar in March 2010 and very much appreciated by all who attended. |

The IMB Community Foundation supported the research and development of SCARF’s CONNECT program in 2007. This funding allowed SCARF to successfully scope and design a suitable employment assistance program for refugees settling in the Illawarra. The IMB Community Foundation also provided vital education resources towards SCARF’s Homework Help program.
In 2008, the IMB Community Foundation continued their ongoing support of our bi-annual community consultation days, and a new partnership project with the IECC Working directly with the local Refugee community, the CONNECT Community Enterprise Initiatives program will support two exciting enterprise arms (food and arts & crafts) toward long-term social and economic community goals. SESIAHS supported SCARF in the provision of sexual health workshops for refugee youth in the Illawarra during 2007 and 2008. Workshops resulted in the production of a young women's and men's postcard resource, and a peer education poster in 2008. For copies of the resources, please email
In 2008, SESIAHS supported SCARF to conduct a men’s activity: A Day at the Green. The day will include nutrition workshops, community cooking and sports activities. We anticipate this event will be very well attended by members from the predominantly African and Burmese refugee communities. More info here.
