SCARF’s dedicated Woolies BBQ puts on a classic sausage sizzle at Fairy Meadow Woolies to fundraise much needed money for SCARF. More info here

Art4Refugees 2017 Exhibition – 26th October – 12th November

Art4refugees is an annual charity art exhibition and major fundraising event for SCARF. This unique event sees artists donate their artworks for public purchase with 100% of sale proceeds directed to SCARF. This year, Art4Refugees will be held at iAccelerate, Innovation Campus (UOW). There will be an Opening Night event featuring Syrian cuisine, a drinks bar, auctions, live performances and guest speakers. We’re also holding a Family Day with art and craft activities for the whole family.

When: Friday 27th October, 6-9pm 
Where: iAccelerate, UOW Innovation Campus
Tickets: $60 – all proceeds go to SCARF, includes Syrian cuisine and drink on arrival – Available here.

To officially launch the Art4Refugees 2017 exhibition, SCARF will be hosting a special Opening Night event celebrating art, community and culture.

The Opening Night event will feature:

  • Traditional Syrian cuisine
  • Peformances by Sako Dermenjian (classical Guitarist) and Manal Younus (spoken word artist)
  • A keynote address and performance by artist, musician and activist, Blak Douglas
  • A free drink on arrival & a drinks bar
  • First opportunity to purchase a range of quality artworks
  • A chance to have an enjoyable night while supporting a good cause (all proceeds got to SCARF!)

Tickets* are $60 (including a drink on arrival and Syrian tasters prepared by our SCARF Community Members). All proceeds form ticket sales go directly to SCARF to support their work. *Limited capacity available.

Art4Refugees Family Day – Sunday 29th October, 10am-2pm, gold coin donation and $5 morning tea/coffee available. There will be craft activities happening including Macrame etc.

Events for SCARF Community Members

Coffee & Conversation – Every Friday morning. Casual conversations between volunteers and SCARF Community Members to help practice English speaking and listening skills over coffee. More info here.

Homework Help – Every Tuesday & Thursday afternoon (during term-time). Volunteers provide learning support to secondary and tertiary students. More info here.

Youth Hangout Evening – Saturday, 28th October 5:00-7:30pm at Flourish, 3 Station Street, Wollongong. Calling all SCARF Youth (vols and community members) aged 15-30 years! We’re having a Youth Hangout featuring special guests, friends, food and more. Rsvp is essential – email youth@scarfsupport.org.au stating your name, age, email and phone number by the 24th of October.

Community Picnic Day – Saturday 4th November, 9am – 3pm at Illawarra Steamers. SCARF volunteers and community members are welcome to join us at our annual Picnic Day!

Multicultural Health/Refugee Health Service Briefing Session – Tuesday 17th October, 9:30am to 11:00am

Multicultural Health/Refugee Health Service are offering an information briefing session for SCARF staff and volunteers, which will be held at the SCARF office. This session is offered to staff and volunteers to further enhance our own understanding of settlement support services within the Illawarra. The session will be run by refugee nurses who play a key role in settlement support. SCARF will organise language specific sessions for our community members. No Interest Loans Scheme – NILS SCARF Volunteer Information Session – Thursday 16th November 4:30pm, SCARF Office

NILS loans are available to low income earners in our local community for the purchase of household items and services. Come along to SCARF and find out more about this valuable resource. Please email volunteer@scarfsupport.org.au if you would like to come along.
