Our Shared Humanity: Insights into the Refugee Experience – 24th August

Hosted by the UOW Human Geography Society with HuGS and SCARF

Join the UOW Human Geography Society for an evening of discussion, focused on building connections and increasing understanding of the refugee experience. Hear from SCARF Community Educators from refugee and non-refugee backgrounds, engage with our interactive activities and check out the talent of local artists that will be on display.

Art4Refugees 2017 – 26th October – 12th November

Art4refugees is an annual charity art exhibition and major fundraising event for SCARF. This unique event sees artists donate their artworks for public purchase with 100% of sale proceeds directed to SCARF. This year, Art4Refugees will be held at iAccelerate, Innovation Campus (UOW). There will be an Opening Night event featuring Syrian cuisine, a drinks bar, auctions, live performances and guest speakers. We’re also holding a Family Day with art and craft activities for the whole family.

Art4refugees October 2017 Dates:

  • Opening Night Event* – Friday 27th October, 6-9pm, tickets $60 (including a drink on arrival and Syrian tasters prepared by our SCARF Community Members)
  • Family Day – Sunday 29th October, 10am-2pm, gold coin donation and $5 morning tea/coffee available. There will be craft activities happening including Macrame etc.
  • The Exhibition – Saturday 26th October – Sunday 12th November, 10am-5pm

Events for SCARF Community Members

Coffee & Conversation – Every Friday morning. Casual conversations between volunteers and SCARF Community Members to help practice English speaking and listening skills over coffee. More info here.

Homework Help – Every Tuesday & Thursday afternoon (during term-time). Volunteers provide learning support to secondary and tertiary students. More info here.

Youth Outdoor Education Camp – Men aged 17-25 – 25-27 September at the Southern Highlands. SCARF is working together with The Outdoor Education Group to offer a camp for young men, aged 17 to 25. The camp will be held over 3 days and 2 nights, on 25th to 27th September 2017 in the Southern Highlands. We would like to make this camp culturally inclusive, with youth from refugee and non-refugee backgrounds. We have a few spaces open for SCARF volunteers, their sons and grandsons! Camp cost is $120 per person.

To book your space at camp or to ask questions, contact youth@scarfsupport.org.au by Tuesday September 8th. For bookings, we need the attendee’s name, date of birth, contact number and email address. Our youth coordinator will contact you to confirm the registration and arrange payment. Spaces are limited.
